There are 30 magical castles scattered across Kent. Spend a day exploring the history and grandeur of beautiful Leeds Castle and Hever Castle. Bodiam castle, a National Trust property is also worth a visit and the perfect way to get there is by steam train from Tenterden.

Meander around inspirational and beautiful gardens, you’ll be spoilt for choice in The Garden of England! National Trust Properties - Sissinghurst Castle Garden, Scotney Castle, Ightham Mote and Chartwell (Sir Winston Churchill’s home) and Batemans (Rudyard Kipling’s home). Other beautiful gardens worth visiting are Pashley Manor Gardens and Hole Park.

Towns & Villages

Our local villages of Cranbrook, Headcorn, Hawkhurst and Tenterden are very quaint and interesting, perfect for meandering around. My favourite place Rye is just over the border but worth a day trip. Have lunch there then pop along to Camber Sands for sun, sea and surf. Also drive or hop on a train and visit the cathedral city of Canterbury (UNESCO World Heritage Site) and the historic Spa town of Royal Tunbridge Wells.

If you fancy a carefree day at the beach with fresh sea air and sand between your toes, then these are great beaches to visit, Broadstairs - Joss Bay, Whitstable – Tankerton beach, Camber Sands, Sandwich – Pegwell Bay, Hythe, Ramsgate and Margate. For something completely different visit Dungeness with its huge expanse of shingle, big open skies and art studios to dip into. Also fabulous fish and chips at The Pilot Inn.

Bike rides & walks

We live in the High Weald of Kent an area of outstanding natural beauty so there are many beautiful local walks. We recommend visiting Bedgebury National Pinetum and forest (hire bikes available) and Hemsted forest.

Boating & sailing

Fancy messing about on the water, then we recommend the following. Bewl Water (boat trips and sailing). Bodiam Boating Station (boat trips, kayaks and paddle board rentals.). Kentish Lady River Boat trips from Maidstone.

Explore one of the local award wining vineyards. Most offer wine tasting and guided tours. Balfour Hush Heath Estate is only 10 minutes away in Staplehurst and Chapel Down is in Tenterden.
